Application for Drainage Permit

NOTICE IS, HEREBY GIVEN: Jim Schauer has applied for drainage permit #25-D-05 to improve drainage in the W1/2 of 28-126N-67W (Leola Township). Proposed work is to put patterned drain tiles on this land and to have it flow into a lift station to the southeast. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN: That said application shall be considered by the McPherson County Drainage Board on January 6th, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. in the Commissioner’s Room of the McPherson County Courthouse located in Leola, South Dakota. At this time and place, any person interested in the approval or rejection of such application may appear and be heard.

Application for a Variance

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: Sid Feickert has applied for Variance (26-V-01) to McPherson County Zoning Board of Adjustment under Section 4.01.04 of the Revised Zoning Ordinance of McPherson County, South Dakota. Application is for a house and garage less than 150 feet from the center of the road in the NW1/4 SW1/4 of Section 3 – Township 127N – Range 68W (Hoffman Township) in McPherson County, South Dakota.

The said Variance (26-V-01) shall be considered by the McPherson County Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, at 10:05 A.M. in the Commissioner’s Chambers in the McPherson County Courthouse located in Leola, South Dakota. At this time and place, any person interested in the approval or rejection of the variance may appear and be heard.

FLOODED FARMLAND APPLICATION

Applications are available in the Director of Equalization Office for reduction in value on flooded farmland. The flooded agricultural land must be non-farmable during the past three growing seasons. Land that is in CRP or any other program where use is restricted is not eligible for this adjustment.

Applications must include a current FSA map with the flooded acres highlighted on the map. An application is required for each parcel of land. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2025. You must apply each year to receive a water reduction.

McPherson County Property Owners

McPherson County Zoning Ordinance #2024-1 requires a building permit for any improvements on or to any structure/building in which the market value of the improvements exceeds $3,000 for property in Long Lake, Wetonka, Hillsview and rural McPherson County. If you are a resident of the City of Eureka or the City of Leola, you are required to acquire a building permit from your respective city.

To obtain a building permit, contact the McPherson County Equalization Office. If a building permit is not obtained, a fine will be applied. Please call the McPherson County Equalization Office at 605-439-3663 if you have any questions.
