Auditor’s Office FAQ’s


Q: Who can register to vote?

A: Any McPherson County resident of the age of 18 can register to vote. When you register to vote it will make you eligible to vote in local, county, state and federal elections for your particular district. If you have questions on what district you are in, please call the Auditor’s office for assistance.


Q: How do I register to vote?

A: To register to vote you must fill out a voter registration form. You can register in person at the Auditor’s office, print the form off from the website, fill out and mail to the Auditor’s office, or call the office (605-439-3314) to request a form be mailed to you. Q: I had a name or address change, what do I need to do to update my voter registration?

A: You will need to fill out a new voter registration form. The Auditor’s office is not allowed to make any changes to your voter information without a new voter registration form on file. You can fill out a new form in person at the Auditor’s office, print the form off from the website, fill out and mail to the Auditor’s office, or call the office (605-439-3314) to request a form be mailed to you. Q: I can’t remember if I am registered to vote or not?

A: You can check voter registration information at the SD Secretary of State Voter Portal – https://sos.sd.gov/Elections/VIPLogin.aspx


Q: What if I see some incorrect information in a plat book that I obtained from your office?

A: We provide the data to the plat book companies once a year; if you have questions on something in the plat book you need to contact the Director of Equalization office to see what they have on file. If you do not see your name listed in the plat book directory you need to contact the plat book company directly to inquire about why your name is not listed.


Q: I need registration tags for my vehicle or I have a Driver’s License question.

A: You need to contact the McPherson County Treasurer’s office for assistance with those questions. Their phone number is 605-439-3544.


Q: I have a question on why my taxes changed from last year to this year.

A: Please call the Auditor’s office at 605-439-3314 and we will be able to go through what changed on your taxes with you.


Q: When does the McPherson County Commission meet and how do I get on the agenda?

A: The McPherson County Commission meets on the first Tuesday of the month. To be put on the agenda please contact the Auditor’s Office 24 hours prior to the meeting. The meeting date can change some months due to conflicts so please call the Auditor’s office to confirm the date of the meeting beforehand.


Q: How can I obtain minutes from the McPherson County Commission or Drainage Meeting?

Q: How can I get a plat book?

A:You can purchase plat books in the Auditors office for $35.00 or you can mail a check to the Auditor’s office for $40.00 and have the plat book mailed directly to you. The Auditor’s Office mailing address is P.O. Box 390, Leola, SD 57456
